Technical Lectures
The technical lecture series are delivered by our resident physiotherapists who remain an important
part of our teachings, as it was their original research that laid the foundations of the training ethos.
We consider the technical lectures to be one of our core competencies as a training provider,
with no other Pilates training organisations offering these extended technical lectures as part of their
full Matwork Diploma.
Each lecture will enhance the knowledge that you have previously gained throughout your Matwork education,
particularly building your personal training skills from Matwork 2. Lectures include:
Healthy Back
Understand the structure and function of the spine and learn about the common causes of problems.
Knowledge of pathomechanics will assist you with one-to-ones, and also maintain your own healthy back.
Sacroiliac and Hip
A full understanding of the anatomy and function of this area is key to the Pilates method. Learn the
common pathologies affecting the area, and the muscle slings that are required for full function of the
joints above and below.
Knee and Foot
Covering the anatomy and function of the lower limb and looking at the common pathologies. Taking an
in-depth look at the function of the foot and its role in correct posture while standing.
Shoulder Girdle and Neck
Investigating the close connection between these two areas, and the common pathologies and postures that
affect them. Learn how to use basic Pilates exercises for prevention and rehabilitation of shoulder and neck
problems.
Clinical Posture
The assessment of posture is key to designing an effective one-to-one Pilates program. Learning the muscle
slings that run throughout the body and how Pilates-based exercise can be used to assess and improve. It will
involve looking at the whole body and bringing together all the information learned from the previous
study days.
